Belknap Memorabilia Wanted

Friends give ear, the Belknap Archive Center is open!

Housed in the Oates Alumni Center, the Camp Belknap Archive is the cornerstone of Belknap's effort to gather, preserve and showcase Camp's 108-year history as told through documents and objects created, owned and loved by Belknappers. Its holdings consist both of items gathered at Camp over the years and newly donated items from generous alumni and friends.

In time, highlights from the Archive will be put on the internet for searching and viewing, adding a new way to celebrate Belknap and its unique history. Now we are on the hunt to grow the Archive's collection and for that we need your help -- we need your old Belknap stuff! Check your trunk, bookshelves and drawers, your attic and your basement; inquire with friends, your parents and your children -- seek high and low for anything that might have a place in the Camp Belknap Archive.

What are we looking for most?

  * Photographs (prints, photo albums and slides)
  * Home movies
  * Letters to and from Camp
  * Scrapbooks
  * Diaries, journals and personal memoirs, written or voice-recorded
  * Printed matter
  * Camp-specific artwork
  * Camp-issued clothing, awards, equipment and souvenirs
  * Any other Camp-related mementoes or documents (if you think it might interest     us, just ask -- or send it along!)

For the first stage of this effort we are especially keen on receiving items from before 1970. Until the seventies, the Masqua was not illustrated and there was no slide show.
As a result, we have very few photographic images from these early years. So our first priority is visual documentation of Camp up til about 1970 (prints, slides and movie reels).

But don't let that limit you. If you're a more recent Belknapper we want to hear from you too. You can either donate now (nothing will be refused!) or hold off until the next round, when we'll make a push for items dating from the Seventies and on. And meanwhile, everyone is encouraged to keep the Archive in mind going-forward as you gather and organize your Belknap material past and present.

Rest assured your donations will be treated with care and appreciation. We've invested in professional archival technology for the Alumni Center and two Belknap staff members serve as curators year-round. In fact they have already been at work cataloging Camp's current inventory. How to donate? You can go ahead and mail your items to us at:
